Extractions

Acne extractions are a type of acne treatment where the clogged pores are cleansed, using proper instruments by trained personnel. A pimple is extracted by using an “acne extractor” that pulls out the solid or fluid that is inside the pimple by applying pressure and expelling the inside content.

What’s involved?

Squeezing spots and other acne blemishes may seem so simple that anyone can do it, but there is an art to doing it right to avoid:

  • Permanent scarring
  • More noticeable acne
  • More painful acne
  • An infection

These unwanted side effects are likely when you pop spots at home. When you pop pimples yourself, you also run the risk of getting an infection from the bacteria on your hands.

Frequently asked questions

Is there any downtime?

After most acne extraction procedures, the patient can carry on with the rest of the day as there is no downtime. Some may experience redness and blotchy skin, but that fades within a few hours. You can use cooling gel or aloe vera gel post the treatment to treat inflammation and redness, if any. If you have very sensitive skin, it is advisable to mention this to your acne professional as they can provide cooling relief post-treatment.

If the extractions are part of another treatment, this will be included as part of the treatment process when treating acne. If the dermatologist needs to do extractions on nodules and cysts, this would be part of the routine consultation that you have with them.

If a stand alone treatment there will be a minimal charge.
